Dans les années 70, l'art a connu des modifications radicales qui le déterminent encore entièrement aujourd'hui. Jacques Lennep (né en 1941) adopta d'emblée ces nouveaux médias comme éléments constitutifs d'une esthétique « relationnelle » dont il formula les principes dès 1973 et qui a récemment connu un regain d'intérêt.

Arts en relation, avec 435 illustrations, réunit ses différentes pratiques artistiques ; c'est un recueil riche d'informations pour aider à comprendre les origines et l'évolution de ces formes d'expression.

During the 1970s, contemporary art underwent a radical series of changes which still define it today. At that time avant-garde artists developed a so-called « attitude » art and turned to new techniques for expression such as the video, installation, and performance. They staged actions, and developed conceptual art, narrative art, body art and sociological art. The artist's book became a popular médium. These artists reassessed photogra-phy and gave it a new importance.

Jacques Lennep (born in 1941) from the very start adopted thèse new means as the cornerstone of a « relational » aesthetic. The theory, whose principles he formulated already in 1973, have recently gained a renewed interest. This book contains 435 illustrations that embody all these modes of expression. This book is a valuable set of information to help us understand the origins and évolution of this form of art.
